In April, three gymnasts from Russell Gymnastics in Stevens Point competed in the U.S.A. Gymnastics (USAG) Region 4 Regional Championships in St. Louis.

Thirteen-year-old Katelyn Trowbridge, a level 8 gymnast, placed first all-around with a score of 36.025. Individually, she took sixth place in vault (8.750), second place in uneven bars (9.275), seventh place in beam (8.750) and second place in floor (9.250).

At level 9, 12-year-old Madelyn Manternach took eighth place overall with an all-around score of 34.00. Individually, she placed fourth in vault (8.875), eighth in uneven bars (7.625), third in beam (8.675) and fifth in floor (8.825).

Also at level 9, 17-year-old Kali Schierl placed seventh overall with an all-around score of 34.725. Individually, she took first place in vault (9.250), eighth in uneven bars (8.225), sixth in beam (8.775) and 12th in floor (8.475).

The gymnasts qualified for the Region 4 Championships due to their all-around scores at the state meet. Region 4 consists of eight Midwestern states.

In the Junior Olympic Western Championships, Schierl finished in seventh place at the Regional 4 Championships and qualified for the Junior Olympic Western Championships, which were held April 29 through May 1 in Missoula, Mont., and included gymnasts from the western half of the United States.

Schierl finished 21st overall in her age group at the Western Championships with an all-around score of 35.050. She took fourth in vault (9.350), eighth in uneven bars (8.900), 25th in beam (7.800) and 20th in floor (9.000). Because Schierl’s Region 4 team took first place in the Senior 7 level, she is a National Team champion.

Coaches Dave, Debbie and Dusti Russell said they are extremely proud of the girls’ commitment to the Russell Gymnastics program and they are also proud of the girls’ level of success.
