SPYBA’s 8U Travel Team Takes Second in Rapids Tournie

The Stevens Point Youth Baseball Association (SPYBA) 8U team played in the Wisconsin Rapids tournament June 3 and 4.

The SPYBA 8U team opened up against the Wisconsin Rapids Red team on Friday night. It was a close game throughout and was tied 6-6 after four innings. SPYBA erupted for six runs in the bottom of the fifth and held Rapids Red scoreless in the sixth to come out with a 12-6 victory.

Calvin Roth lead the attack with four hits and Dash Kvatek, Grant Jahnke, Josh Czerneski and Brett Lefebvre each had three.
Saturday Stevens Point’s first game was against the Wausau Comets. Point jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first and didn’t look back on the way to a 12-2 win in four innings.
Ben Hopp, Koy Karaliunas, Ian Ekstand and Dash Kvatek each had three hits and Austin Gray, Calvin Roth and Ben Hopp had doubles.
In the second game Saturday, Stevens Point played Clutch and came up short in a 13-4 decision. Point was lead on offense by Calvin Roth’s three hits and doubles by Roth and Ben Hopp.

The SPYBA 8U team bounced back on Sunday against Wisconsin Rapids White to win 14-4 in four innings to finish with a 3-1 record and claim second place in the tournament. In the game Calvin Roth and Josh Czerneski connected on home runs and Koy Karaliunas, Josh Czerneski, Max Lutgen and Austin Gray all had three hits.

The Stevens Point team will play next in their home tournament June 25-26.
