An anticipated 15,000 people are expected in the area for this year’s annual Energy Fair.

Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) will hold its 27th annual Energy Fair Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18 from 9 AM – 10 PM and Sunday, June 18 from 9 AM – 4 PM at 7558 Deer Rd. in Custer.

Organizers of the fair expect to see about 15,000 attendees at the event, which provides environmental education emphasizing clean energy and sustainability practices. The Energy Fair includes more than 250 workshops and more than 200 exhibitors.

Live music, keynote speakers and family-friendly activities will also take place during the three-day event.

Allison Lindquist, event coordinator, described the fair as “a one-of-a-kind event.” In addition to providing renewable energy and sustainable living education, she said the fair is a networking opportunity for attendees looking to take the next step toward sustainability.

“The need for renewable energy and sustainability education has kept this event going for 27 years,” Lindquist said. “There is always something new to learn.”

This year’s attendees will be able to participate in workshops, activities and entertainment including yoga and live music from PHOX. Several keynote speakers will present various topics throughout each day of the fair.

Highlights of the event’s “Clean Transportation Show” will include electronic bikes and Tesla vehicles on display.

According to Lindquist, everyone from children and new homeowners to solar industry professionals and activists attend the fair. “I love seeing the range of people … all gathering in one place,” she said. “Where else do you get to see a country field turned into a small city?”

Tickets are $10 – $35, depending on ticket type, and can be purchased online or at the fair. On Father’s Day tickets will be free for fathers who attend the event with their children.
