Anton J. Omernik, 90

Anton J. Omernik, age 90 of Rosholt, died peacefully at home on June 11, 2016.
Anton was born June 14, 1925 in the Town of Franzen, Marathon County. He is the son of the late John & Frances (Bruski) Omernik. He was married to Genevieve Strosin at St. Adalbert’s Church in Rosholt on Oct. 21, 1950. She survives. Anton served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 serving with the 2nd Armored Division stationed in Germany with the occupation forces attaining the rank of corporal and received an honorable discharge.
After the service he worked at Lullaby Furniture in Stevens Point and then worked 21 years for the Portage County Highway Department as a patrolman until his retirement.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 509 for 60 years, was a lifetime member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post 185, Men’s Rosary Society, Sacred Heart Society, and former member of the Rosholt Lions Club and Rosholt Fire Department.
He was honored to participate in the Honor Flight in May 2015. Anton and Genevieve celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary October 21, 2015.
Survivors include his wife Genevieve, Two sons: Tony (Mary P.) Omernik of Wausau and Joseph (Mary R.) Omernik of Rosholt. Four grandchildren: Jessica (Jeff) Cattarozzle, Susy (Dave) Pawl, Ashley (Joe) Schloesser and Joshua (Fiancé Jenna) Omernik. Three great grandchildren: Brady, Tyler and Theodore. He was preceded in death by 1 brother: Ray and 3 sisters: Regina Michaels, Helen Lisowski & Clara Jones.
Anton was a loving husband and caring father who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need of help. He enjoyed deer hunting, woodworking, fishing and especially loved gardening.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Wednesday at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Rosholt. Burial with full military honors will follow in the parish cemetery.
