June 17
Busted for Pot: Portage Co. deputies arrested a 23-year-old man for possession of THC and possession of drug paraphernalia during a 8:10 AM traffic stop on Hwy 54 in Plover. The man was also cited for operating after suspension.
Disturbance: A 21-year-old woman called police to report a disturbance involving a 20-year-old man at a home on the 400 block of Helen Lane in Stevens Point at 8:01 PM.
Wild Horses: A 33-year-old man called deputies to report loose horses near a home County trunks P and O at 8:46 PM. The horses were later secured.
Verbal Disturbance: Police were called to a home on W. McDonald Dr. at 1:58 AM after a caller reported an argument between a 26-year-old man and 23-year-old woman.
Drunk Driver at Bukolt: Police arrested a 22-year-old man for his second OWI offense, along with charges he was driving inattentively, operating after suspension and operating after revocation at 4:47 AM in Bukolt Park. The man initially called police to report he’d accidentally hit some of the large decorative rocks at the park and his car broke down there.
Theft Unbecoming of a Violinist: An employee of Jim Laab’s, 1045 Main St., reported a customer was refusing to return a rented violin, estimated to be worth $595, at 10:39 AM.
Disturbance: Police arrested a 44-year-old man on a warrant following a reported disturbance at a home on the 500 block of Washington Ave. at 12:46 PM.
Assault: An assault was reported on the 2800 block of Henrietta St. at 12:55 PM.
Unconscious Male: A caller reported to police there was an unconscious male on the 1800 block of Main St. at 2:02 PM. No further information was immediately available.
Inattentive Driver: Police responded to a two-vehicle crash near Hwy. 10 and Maple Bluff Road at 3:36 PM. The crash involved two drivers, a 58-year-old woman, and a 27-year-old man — who received a citation for inattentive driving.
Disorderly Teenager: Police responded to a home on the 3900 block of Doolittle Dr. after a caller there reported a disturbance between a mother and her 16-year-old son at 8:30 PM.
Maneater: A 21-year-old man called police to report a 22-year-old woman took his ID and credit card before dropping him off on the 4900 block of Main St. at 10 AM.
June 18
OWI: Deputies arrested a 55-year-old man for operating while under the influence, first offense, and operating with a positive blood alcohol content, during a traffic stop near Main St. and 2nd St. in Amherst at 2:28 AM.
Fist Fight: Police responded to a physical altercation at the intersection of Main and Church streets at 2:45 AM between four men, ages 21, 22 and 29.
Hey, That’s My Dog: Deputies responded to June Dairy Days in Amherst after a caller reported an altercation between a dog owner and others who found the dog at 11:13 AM. The dog owner was taken to Wood Co. Jail on an unrelated warrant.
Is Something Burning? A caller reported to the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office an odor which she believed to be burning shingles near Ridgewood Dr. and Jurgella Ln. at 3:30 PM. The deputy on the scene reported smelling no smoke, but noted he could detect the odor of fertilizer.
Crash: Deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash between an 18-year-old man and an 86-year-old woman near I-39 and Hwy. 54 at 7:33 PM. No injuries were immediately reported.
Pot Bust: Police cited a 21-year-old man at 9:24 AM for possession of marijuana, less than five grams, on the 2100 block of Patch St.
Canoeist Death: Police responded to Iverson Park at 5:02 PM after a caller reported an unconscious woman in the Lower Plover River. Police on the scene attempted CPR and defibrillation, but the woman later died at Ministry St. Michael’s.
Disorderly Conduct: Police cited a 61-year-old man with disorderly conduct after he had a fight with a 19-year-old man at a residence on the 1100 block of Crosby Ave.
June 19
Grass Fires: A caller reported a grass fire near County Tk. J and Meadow in Custer at 1:24 PM. Crews responded to 11 grass fires in the area that day.
Oh, For Pete’s Sake: Deputies were called to the scene when two male relatives, 51 and 68, got into a verbal argument following a family funeral on the 1800 block of North Second Drive at 4:43 PM.
Harassment: A 36-year-old woman reported to police she’d been receiving harassing text messages from her estranged husband at 12:15 AM.
OWI: A 26-year-old man was arrested for operating while under the influence, first offense, and operating left of the center line, following a traffic stop near Rice St. and Minnesota Ave at 1 AM.
