Man Waves Gun During Argument Over Lighter

A Stevens Point man is free on bond after allegedly pointing a gun at a family member during an argument over a cigarette lighter.
Lavonta M. Green, 28, was arrested after a caller reported Green pointed his handgun at a male family member at their home on the 2600 block of Sunset Blvd at 10:18 AM on June 20.
“They got into an argument over borrowing a lighter, apparently,” Zenner said. “The argument escalated into a threat of violence using a handgun.”
Green left the residence before police could arrive, but Zenner said officers found Green driving on Dixon St. based on a vehicle description provided while on the way to his home.
Stevens Point police, along with a Portage Co. Sheriff’s deputy who responded to assist, conducted a high-risk traffic stop, according to Zenner.
“They ordered him out of the vehicle,” Zenner said. “That’s when he indicated he had a conceal carry permit, and he was cooperative during his arrest.”
Zenner said officers at the scene located the handgun in Green’s car, and were able to verify Green was licensed to conceal carry his handgun. It was not immediately known if Green’s handgun was loaded at the time, though Zenner said it didn’t appear the handgun had been fired during the argument.
Green was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct/domestic abuse and appeared in Portage Co. Circuit Court on Tuesday. He was released on a $250 signature bond by Judge Robert Shannon.
Shannon ordered Green have no “intentional or abusive contact” with the victim, and to make arrangements with law enforcement to obtain his belongings from his Sunset Blvd. home.
Green returns to court for an initial hearing on July 5.
