Stevens Point Among Best Cities for Teachers: Report

City Times Staff
Stevens Point has been named the 30th best place to live for teachers in a new report studying more than 900 cities.
In the second annual “Best Place for K-12 Teachers to Live and Work” report, conducted by the college and career website GoodCall.com, Stevens Point was ranked among the top cities for teachers because of strong teacher salaries, local school ratings and a healthy job market. A total of 913 cities across the nation were analyzed for the report.
Factors considered in the rankings included cost of living, job competition, population size and amenities.
In the report, Stevens Point’s average teacher salary is listed at $54,217 — above the median household income of $38,934 — and that for every 1,000 teachers there were 11.61 open jobs.
Stevens Point has consistently been found on “best of” lists for living conditions, to include a 2009 report from CNNMoney.com report ranking the city at the 18th best place to retire.
