Victor Kedrowski, motor pump operator/paramedic for the Stevens Point Fire Department, hauls brush from the yard of Station No. 1 on Division Street.
Kedrowski was joined by Capt. Dennis Zavara (off camera) for the outdoor duty on Tuesday.
The department is gearing up for a training exercise on Wednesday, when it will conduct a live-fire burn on the corners of Green Ave. North and Mitchell Drive during a day-long training session.
The department will conduct a series of smaller practice burns before lighting the vacant home at that location, the use for which was donated by Scaffidi.
“Training by SPFD personnel is vital to maintaining knowledge and proficiency in fire behavior, fire suppression, search and rescue,” said Chief Bob Finn in a news release announcing the burning exercise.
“Large amounts of smoke will be present at times and may pose visibility issues on some nearby roads,” he wrote. “Please avoid the area and pay attention to detours if you must travel near the training grounds.”
