Fun With FACS a Big Hit with Students

By Robert Whitmire
Fun with FACS – Family and Consumer Science – remains one of the very popular offerings during the six-week Stevens Point Public Schools Summer School Program.
“The class is being taught this summer at P.J. Jacobs, [and] focuses on relaxation techniques, team-building and exploring foods from around the globe,” said FACS teacher Kelly Smith.
Some of the relaxation methods explored have included making aromatherapy play-dough, and coloring with some outside games such as water balloon tossing, tag and other similar games used to foster team-building skills.
Students also have spent time in the kitchen cooking in small groups and tantalizing aromas from around the world have filled the hallways at P.J. Jacobs with such global dishes as spring rolls, Spanish rice, chicken curry, pizza and crepes.
“I really like cooking with your friends,” said student Caden Vercimak.
“I would cook with friends all day,” added classmate Emily Glodowski.
P.J. Jacobs Junior High is located at 2400 Main Street.
