Students in the Stevens Point Public Schools Intermediate program at P.J. Jacobs ended the first three weeks of classes with an art fair.

Students displayed their art in the library, while the annual summer Chalkfest was held on the sidewalk surrounding the school June 28 and 29.

Students in Nancian Hall’s Creative Art classes have been designing many different art projects, as well as taking turns teaching their fellow artists a lesson in their favorite forms of art.

The classes then put their works, including oil pastels, sculpt clay animals, and golden plate circular radial design, on display for summer school classes, parents, staff, and the public. Also taking part in the art fair where students from the “Plants, Animals and You” and the Life Skills classes.

“We are thrilled that parents are taking time out of their busy schedules to come and view the artwork and school projects on display in the P.J. Jacobs library,” said Hall.

Three guest artists visited the art classes including Bill Zimdars who showed students how to create German wax paper stars; Mary Zinda who taught alcohol ink on tiles, and Sarah Lynch — with her daughter and class member Haley — who gave a lesson on how to make wooden story boards and wooden pets.

Students in Karen Schultz’s Creative Arts class are enjoying their time in class making oil-pastel dragons, wooden collages, and ‘Who is in Their Shoe’ personality profiles.

“It has been a pleasure working with these creative students,” says Schultz.

Classes spent June 29 and 30 turning the sidewalks around P.J. Jacobs into a colorful and creative palette during the first of two Chalkfests. The young artists will hold their second Chalkfest on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 19 & 20.

“We have stellar students this year,” Hall said. “They all seem to get along and are polite, well-behaved and respectful. In addition, they are gifted in art. I am awed by their artistic styles and abilities.”
