After spending nine years traveling around the country for her job, Darcy Cummings is back in Stevens Point as the owner of Finer Consigner, located at 2501 Church Street.

“I lived here when I was younger,” Cummings said. “My fiancé has children here – our last location was California – and we were missing home a bit.”

Cummings’s love for fashion and background in interior design sparked her desire to open an upscale consignment shop. “I’ve always loved fashion, making my own clothes, and redoing my own furniture,” she said.

Finer Consigner will sell name brand clothing for men and women, vintage pieces, jewelry, shoes, accessories, and furniture items. The resale shop is Cummings’s first business endeavor.

“We’re going to try it for the first year and see how it does,” she said. “Hopefully it will take off, and I’ll be able to open another one in Plover or Point.”

Cummings is happy to assist customers with finding clothing items in the store that pair well together. “We display things that go together,” she explained. “The fashion here is a little different than what I’m used to.”

“I hope customers have an overall good experience and get good quality for what they pay,” Cummings added.

Prices throughout the store vary from item to item. Cummings said basic clothing is less expensive, while a new item from luxury department store Bloomingdales, for example, would be priced higher.

Over the past 11 years, Cummings said she has lived in nine states. Her connections across the country have helped her to build a wide variety of inventory at the store.

“I have friends in California, Texas – and they send their items to me and consign them,” Cummings explained. She added that she and her fiancé often attend auctions and estate sales to collect unique items for resale.

In the future, Cummings plans to hold classes at Finer Consigner on wire-wrapping sea glass and scarf tying. For now, she said she is enjoying her environment of clothing and accessories, and being her own boss.

“I’ve had good support from family and friends to make it happen – I wouldn’t have been able to do it on my own,” Cummings said. “My fiancé and his family are a big support system for me – and my two close girlfriends.”

Finer Consigner is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., and is closed Sundays and Mondays. For more information, find the shop on Facebook.
