Gertrude Jane Steffanus, 85, an Ellis native, died Tuesday,
July 5, 2016, at Arborview Court in Wisconsin Rapids. She was under the care of
Heartland Hospice.


A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 8,
at Boston Funeral Home in Stevens Point, with Deacon Mark Quayhackx officiating.
Burial will be in St. Stephen Catholic Cemetery in Stevens Point.


Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. Friday
until the service.


Memorials may be made in her name to Sacred Heart Church,
711 Prospect Ave., Nekoosa, WI 54457.

Miss Steffanus was born Dec. 21, 1930, in Ellis, a daughter
of the late Clements Joseph and Gertrude Jane (Doyle) Steffanus. She graduated
from P.J. Jacobs High School at the age of 16.


She studied commercial courses in high school and started
her working career as a typist at Hardware Mutual, now Sentry Insurance, in
Stevens Point.


At age 22, she moved to Milwaukee, working for American
Appraisal Company as a comptometer operator and was promoted to supervisor. She
performed secretarial work and at Mercury Engineering Corp., she was a
secretary in the purchasing and sales departments, and advanced to secretary to
the sales manager.


She moved to Denver, Colo., in 1962 and began her 33-year
career with Gates Rubber Company. The steno pool was her initial position, and
she earned many promotions, retiring from Gates as an executive secretary to
the Board.


Survivors include two sisters, Mary Ditter
and Diane (Bruce) Thompson; two brothers, Norman (Janet) Steffanus and Lee
(Connie) Steffanus; 13 nieces and nephews; and 20 great-nieces and
great-nephews.


She was also preceded in death by one brother, Richard; and one
sister, Lorraine Welp.
