Rosholt Thresheree will showcase history, friendships

The 27th Rosholt Thresheree will be held Saturday, July 16, at the Rosholt Fair Park, beginning at 8 a.m., and will also be showing antique sewing machines as well as crafting vendors. There will also be antique machinery, threshing and gas tractors on display.
This is put on by the Rosholt Area Threshermen, and while they used to plan for 1,000 people, this year will be different. In the past a three-day show was put on, but this year the Thresheree and antique tractor pulls will be one weekend, with tractor pulls beginning at 11 a.m., and the N.E.W. Motorsports Improved Farm Tractor and Truck pulls will be a different weekend, set for Saturday, Aug. 13.
Admission cost is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under. Food and drinks will be available for purchase on the grounds.
The Pioneer Museum will be open during the Thresheree. The Thresheree has different events each year.
This event brings out people from all over the state and all generations to not only see the antique tractor and lawn mower pulls, but also to learn about the history of Portage County.
“Agriculture plays a huge role in Portage County history, and this event is a great way to not only learn about it but to see that history in action,” said Anna Groshek, secretary for the Rosholt Area Threshermen.
“It is also a reunion of sorts for locals. It is a great time to get together with friends and family as well as meet new people that travel from around the state,” she said.
The club was organized in 1989 for those who wanted to show off their equipment and to preserve the ways of life involving living off the land. The first project of the organization was acquiring an old sawmill, dismantling and rebuilding it. It was done by Labor Day and was operational for the Rosholt Fair. This organization now includes more than 80 people.
“The group got together to take apart and restore the mill for the museum and gained enough interest to officially start a club,” Groshek said.
“The rest is history,” she added.
