Photo of the Day: Thanks Just Doesn’t Seem Enough

Stevens Point Councilwoman Mary Kneebone (left) almost breaks into tears on Tuesday as she thanks Police Chief Marty Skibba (far left), Assistant Chief Tom Zenner (right) and Sgt. John Moss (off camera) for their service to the community.
Sgt. Bob Kussow was also present but is not pictured.
Kneebone is alderwoman for the city’s seventh district, having previously spent five years as an urban planner for the City of Dallas, and spoke to officers during the July 12 police and fire commission meeting.
“Ya know, in light of what happened in Dallas, having worked there and worked in the neighborhood those officers worked out of, it’s been a pretty emotional couple of days,” Kneebone said, her voice trembling. “And I thank you guys for what you do…appreciate it. And Fire [Dept.] as well — you all are putting your lives on the line for all of us.
All local police officers continued to wear a black band over their badges on Tuesday in honor of the five Dallas police officers who were ambushed and killed last Thursday.
Prior to the meeting Zenner said the support coming into the department from the community over the past several days has been “a bit overwhelming”.
“We’ve had people bring us cookies, and one lady brought in flowers to say ‘Thank you’,” Zenner said Tuesday afternoon. “She broke down and gave me a big hug right there in the hallway, and then I cried a little bit, too. In this community, we might know we have a lot of support, but to actually see it…is something a little bit different.”
