Elsie Mathilde Gurholt, 98, Iola, a former Scandinavia resident and Stevens Point teacher, died Sunday, July 17, 2016, at her residence.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 22, at Scandinavia Lutheran Church in Scandinavia, with the Rev. Mark E. Sabin officiating. Interment will be in Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery in the town of Scandinavia in Waupaca County.

Visitation is scheduled at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 21, and at the church from 10 a.m. Friday until the service.

Mrs. Gurholt was born on Sept. 8, 1917, in Cobb Town in
Waupaca County, a daughter of the late Elizabeth (Kromm) and Adam Koch.

She was married to Carsten Jerome Gurholt June 11, 1947, in
Fond du Lac. He died June 9, 1987.

She taught at schools in Hellstad, Peterson Mills, Weyauwega,
Fond du Lac, Kenosha, Iola and at
Jefferson School in
Stevens Point.

She was a member of the Scandinavia Garden Club, Scandinavia
Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid, Scandinavia Pen Crafters, Iola Nursing Home
Auxiliary and the Ladies League at Iola Golf Club.

Survivors include two sons, Verne Gurholt, Aspen, Colo., and
Charles Gurholt, Scandinavia; and two granddaughters, Carli Gurholt, Memphis,
Tenn., and Brooke Makuski, Chicago, Ill.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Peter and
John Koch; and six sisters, Clara Schroeder, Marie Koch, Elizabeth Koch, Eva
Koch, Edith Nickel and Ann Ketcham.
