PoCo K-9 Takes in $2700 From Copps Fundraiser

Copps Market in Stevens Point has raised $2,700 for the Portage Co. K-9 Unit.
The store held its fourth-annual Bottle Rocket Blast Fundraiser from July 1-3, which featured raffles, prizes and special ice cream sales from Kemps.
Special appearances by Portage Co. Sheriff Mike Lukas, along with Deputy John White and his K9 partner Lady, and Deputy Dan Wachowiak with his K-9 partner Baco.
The Portage Co. K-9 Unit takes donations year-round, but lately has stepped up fundraising efforts due in part to a terminal illness of one of their dogs. Baco, a Belgian Malinois K-9 officer, was found to have cancer spread throughout his intestines and lungs in April.
Copps manager Brian Miron said this year’s fundraising event had tough competition with Riverfront Rendezvous, combined with the 4th of July landing on Monday. Last year the store raised well over $3,000.
“But it’s still a good amount of money,” said Miron.
