The Stevens Point City Band, under the direction of Kathryn Kawleski, will present its seventh concert of the summer season on Wednesday, July 20 at 7 PM in the Pfiffner Pioneer Park band shell.

“A Salute To The British Isles” will be the theme as the band plays a variety of music highlighting England, Ireland and Scotland, including Vaughan Williams’ “English Folk Song Suite”, “Overture from Brigadoon”, “Ireland”, “The Symphonic Beatles”, “A Scottish Portrait” and “At Kitty O’Shea’s”. “The Boys of Wexford” by Robert Dwyer Joyce will be the music for the weekly children’s march.

Brigadoon premiered at the Ziegfeld Theatre on March 13, 1947. The story – written by Alan Jay Lerner with music by Frederick Loewe – follows the post-war hunting adventure through Scotland by New Yorkers Tommy Albright and Jeff Douglas. During their journey they stumble upon a mysterious and magical town called Brigadoon that only awakens once every 200 years.

Romance and adventure are the name of the game in this hit musical which enjoyed a run of 581 shows on Broadway and earned a Tony Award for Choreographer Agnes de Mille. It was the fourth collaboration between Lerner and Loewe.

The original Broadway show starred David Brooks, Marion Bell, Pamela Britton and Lee Sullivan and was directed by Robert Lewis. It also produced the first original Broadway cast album ever released by RCA Victor Records.

Michele’s Restaurant and Catering of Stevens Point will provide food for purchase before and during the concert. Concerts are free and held Wednesday evenings through Aug. 3. Audience members should bring chairs or blankets for seating. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the gymnasium at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School, 1919 Wyatt Avenue.
