The Alzheimer’s Association has organized a Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, September 24 at P.J. Jacobs Jr. High School.

The walk is expected to bring together more than 300 participants in the Stevens Point community who will learn about Alzheimer’s disease and how to get involved with this critical cause, from advocacy opportunities and clinical studies enrollment to support programs and services.

Walk participants also honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease with the Promise Garden Ceremony.

Funds raised during the event will “help change the level of Alzheimer’s awareness in Stevens Point”, according to the group’s news release.

The one- and three-mile walks also feature a photo booth, honor wall, music, kid’s games, food and beverages, as well as a special tribute to those who have experienced or are experiencing Alzheimer’s.

“Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic and the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death,” the group wrote in a news release. “As baby boomers age, the number of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease will rapidly escalate, increasing well beyond today’s more than 5 million Americans to as many as 16 million by 2050.”
