‘Heart of Hell’ Researcher to Speak at Portage County Public Library
For the City Times
Dennis Blocker will be presenting the untold struggle fought before the Battle of Iwo Jima, the research of which formed the basis for The Heart of Hell by Mitch Weiss, at the Portage County Public Library.
A questions and answer session and book signing will follow.
Blocker, a World War II historian, began researching the crew of Landing Craft Infantry 449 hoping to learn more about the experiences of his grandfather’s service during the war. What began as a search for family history led him across the U.S. to unearth rare historical documents and conduct more than 100 interviews – research which spanned over 14 years. His research, in collaboration with author Mitch Weiss, has led to a manuscript which brings to light the previously untold story of the battle days before the Battle of Iwo Jima.
The presentation will take place at 2 PM on Aug. 10 in the Pinery Room of the Portage County Public Library, where Dennis Blocker will speak on the World War II history he uncovered followed by a question and answer session.
There is no cost for admission, and the event is open to all members of the public. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
