Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital is growing again.

Fresh from a remodel of its emergency department, and now mid-way through a corridor construction project, the hospital is now moving forward with construction to its new 6600-square-foot cancer wing.

Hospital representatives will be on hand for a public hearing on Aug. 1, when the Stevens Point Plan Commission will hear details of the project, along with opinion from residents. Property owners living within 200 feet of the Ministry St. Michael’s lot at 900 Illinois Ave. were notified of the public hearing by mail on July 15.

Michael Ostrowski said the oncology wing would be constructed on the northeast side of the existing structure, and would extend into the hospital’s parking lot. Because the plan includes adding on to a hospital, the project requires a conditional use permit, which must be approved by the city, he said.

Ostrwoski said once the project is finished, the hospital’s parking lot will loose about 47 stalls. Multiple requests for additional information from Ministry were unsuccessful.

The hospital currently has 1,036 parking stalls on its property. According to site plans as many as 99 parking spaces will be temporarily lost during the construction phase. Additional details on the construction project were not immediately available.

The city previously approved vacating a pedestrian mall on the property in preparation of the construction. That approval took place in March.

The Stevens Point Plan Commission meets Monday, Aug. 1 at 6 PM in the Lincoln Center. The meeting is open to the public.
