Mary Mayek
Mary Margaret “Tuky” Mayek, 85, Plover, died Friday, Aug. 5,
2016, at Atrium Senior Living of Stevens Point at Point Manor.
A private service was held Tuesday, Aug. 9, at St. Rose
Catholic Church in Clintonville.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Mrs. Mayek was born July 19, 1931, in New London, the first
child of the late Margaret Lyle Quall and George Rutherford McCauley. She spent
her summers at the family cottage on Pine Lake, just outside Clintonville. She
graduated from Clintonville High School where she played cornet in the marching
band and sang in the choir.
She graduated in 1955 from Central State Teachers College in Stevens Point (now the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point) with a bachelor’s degree in primary education and a
concentration in studio art.
She was married to Don Mayek, a Marquette University dental
student, Aug. 18, 1956, in Clintonville.
She became involved within the Northeastern Women’s Golf
Association (N.E.W.G.A.), held elective office and organized many events. She
also served on the Stevens Point Country Club Board of Directors, where she and
her husband were members.
Survivors include her husband, Don, Plover; one sister,
Harriet “Punky” McCauley, Clintonville; six children, Michael (Amy), Clintonville,
Timothy (Debra), Hudson, Christine (Brian Gorelick), Winston Salem, N.C.,
Jennifer (Michael Stemple), Stevens Point, Joseph (Bridget), Hudson, and John
(Keiko), Lake Elmo, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Wesley “Buz”
McCauley.
