Gatlin is a repeat offender, having been convicted of issuing worthless checks in May 2014, so any jail sentence he receives can be increased by up to two years.
Gatlin is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Portage Co. Circuit court on Aug. 8.
According to court documents, Stevens Point police were dispatched to a Dixon St. home on Jan. 31, 2015, where they met with a woman who claimed to be Gatlin’s ex-girlfriend. She said earlier that day Gatlin had come to her home to take a show and do some laundry. As he finished, the woman left to run errands, but when she returned, he was gone.
So was her television, blu-ray player, laptop and wireless keyboard were missing, according to the complaint. She also reported her recycling bin had been taken as well. Gatlin’s personal item were left at the home.
The woman told officers she found the recycling bin in the driveway of an abandoned building down the street, and said she thought Gatlin had put the stolen items in the bin and walked it down the street so as to appear inconspicuous.
Two days later the woman called police again with the serial numbers from the stolen TV and Blu-ray player. She also reported she’d discovered a pair of Nike shoes had also been taken by Gatlin.
