George V. Nugent

George V. Nugent, 89, Plover, died Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, at his home in Plover, while under the care of Ministry Hospice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at St. Bronislava Catholic Church in Plover, with the Rev. Edward Shuttleworth officiating. Full military honors will be held following the Mass at church.
Visitation will be at the church from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10262 will hold a ritual at 10:30 a.m. at the church.
A memorial will be established at a later date.

Mr. Nugent was born Sept. 28, 1926, in Stevens Point, a son
of the late Dan and Josephine (Janecke) Nugent. He graduated from P.J. Jacobs
High School in 1944.
He entered the U.S. Navy Oct. 28, 1944. He served on the USS
Midway in the Atlantic. He earned the American Area Ribbon and the World War II
Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged from Great Lakes, Ill., July 2,
1946.
He returned to Stevens Point after service.
He was married to Ramona Lila Sept. 17, 1951, at St. James
Catholic Church in Amherst.
He was a line man for Wisconsin Public Service until his
retirement in 1988.
He was an active member of the Plover American Legion and
the Veterans of Foreign War Post 10262.
Survivors include his wife, Ramona; four children, Nancy
(Lawrence) Sparhawk, Rudolph, Patrick (Sheryl) Nugent, Stevens Point, Michael
(Sandy) Nugent, Wisconsin Rapids, and Mary Sjoberg Whiting; one sister, Verna
Zmuda, Wausau; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Raymond; one sister,
Frances; and one great-granddaughter.
