SPFD Raises Over $8K on Day One of ‘Fill the Boot’

The Stevens Point Fire Dept. raised over $8,200 on its first of two fundraising days for its annual Fill the Boot campaign.
The department’s goal is $16,000 for its 2016 campaign, slightly higher than the amount raised in 2015. The donations benefit which the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and also helps pay for a trip to a special summer camp for kids affected by muscular dystrophy.
Firefighters planned to hit the intersection both Thursday and Friday last week, but were rained out on Aug. 11. To make up for the lost day, the group returns to the intersection of Main and Division streets on Thursday, Aug. 18 from noon to 6 PM.
Firefighter Tom Wastart, who helps organize the annual fundraiser, said donations are also welcome at Fire Station No. 1, located at 1701 Franklin Street.
