George V. Nugent, age 89, of Plover, died August 12, 2016 at his home in Plover, under the care of Ministry Hospice.flag

A Mass of Christian Burial for George will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday August 17, 2016 at St. Bronislava Catholic Church in Plover. Rev. Edward Shuttleworth will officiate.  Friends and family will gather to share memories from 9:00 – 10:45 AM on Wednesday at the church.

V.F.W. Post #10262 will hold a ritual at 10:30 at the church. Full military honors will be held following the Mass at church. Shuda Funeral Service is assisting the family. A memorial in lieu of flowers will be established at a later date.

George was born September 28, 1926 in Stevens Point, the son of Dan and Josephine (Janecke) Nugent. He graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1944. He entered the United States Navy October 28, 1944.

He served his country on the USS Midway in the Atlantic. George earned the American Area Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged from Great Lakes, IL on July 2, 1946.

He returned to Stevens Point and married Ramona Lila on September 17, 1951 at St. James Catholic Church in Amherst. George was a Line Man for Wisconsin Public Service until his retirement in 1988.

George was an active member of the Plover American Legion and the V.F.W. Post 10262. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, celebrating St Patrick’s Day, Packer football, and trips to the casino.

George is survived by his wife Ramona, their 4 children; Nancy (Lawrence) Sparhawk, Rudolph, WI, Patrick (Sheryl) Nugent, Stevens Point, Michael (Sandy) Nugent, WI Rapids; Mary Sjoberg Whiting. His sister, Verna Zmuda, Wausau, as well as 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Raymond , his sister Frances, son-in-law, Orie, and a great granddaughter.
