Panther Girls Swim Past Appleton North

The SPASH girls’ swim team slipped past Appleton North on Aug. 22 at the SPASH swimming pool, winning the final event – the 400-yard freestyle relay — to score an 87-83 win.

In the process, the Panther 400-yard freestyle relay team — Kennedy Gilbertson, Casey Summers, Anna Vandehey and Alex Raczek — set a new pool record with a time of 3:41.33.

First-place finishers for SPASH included Julia Stupar in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.83) and 100-yard freestyle; the 200-yard freestyle relay team (Stupar, Casey Summers, Abbey Rosenthal, Alli Scharbarth) at 1:34.25; Alex Raczek in the 500-yard freestyle (5:29.09); Gilbertson in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.78) and 200-yard individual medley (2:17.48); and Raczek in the 50-yard freestyle (25.63).

Lady Panthers return to action when they travel to Eau Claire Aug. 29 for the Eau Claire Memorial Invite. Events start at noon.

The Panther Junior Varsity swimmers won their meet with a 79-77 score on the strength of first place finishes by the 400-yard freestyle (Jacyie Korth, Jenna Strojny, Lydia Kildahl, Cat Quirk); Carly Fix in the 100-yard backstroke; the 200-yard freestyle relay (Rachel Lummis, Anissa Zaske, Cat Quirk, Brooke Shefchik); Alex Hall in the 500-yard freestyle; Brianna Check in the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle; Jenna Strojny in the 100-yard butterfly; Sydney Clark in the 50-yard freestyle; Katy Pfeiffer in the 200-yard individual medley; and the 200-yard medley relay (Lydia Kildahl, Katy Pfeiffer, Jenna Strojny, Sydney Clark).
