The family, whose son Jason, a Marine Corps veteran who died in 2013 after being prescribed a lethal cocktail of prescription drugs at the VA hospital in Tomah, will act as honorary captains for Saturday’s Guns N’ Hoses charity softball game, proceeds of which stay local and benefit numerous veteran-based organizations.

The game pits Stevens Point firefighters against law enforcement from the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office, Stevens Point and Plover.

The family will oversee the game-opening coin flip of the game, which kicks off at 10:30 AM at Bukolt Park.

The Action Trackchair was purchased by the Guns N’ Hoses planning committee earlier this summer, thanks to a $12,000 donation by local residents Bob and Mary Berard, who are also well-known for their $1 million donation to the local Boys and Girls Club.

The trailer for the chair cost just over $2,000; those funds were donated by Plover residents Ray and Camille Bukowski in memory of their late son, Keith.

The all-terrain electric wheelchair is being made available free of charge for use by veterans in local parks, as well as local veteran hunts.
