Public meeting scheduled to discuss U.S. 10 corridor preservation mapping status

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a public meeting on Tuesday to discuss the status of the corridor mapping project for U.S. 10, from I-39 to Lake Drive.

The meeting is scheduled to take place from 5 PM to 6:30 PM in the school cafeteria of Ben Franklin Jr. High, 2000 Polk Street. A brief presentation is scheduled to begin at 5:15 PM.

After the presentation, the meeting will follow an open house format.

“Based on current information, WisDOT no longer believes it is necessary to preserve right of way for a future, new alignment of U.S. 10,” the organization said in an email release. “The department’s new preferred alternative is to focus on monitoring the safety and operations of the existing U.S. 10 alignment; making improvements when necessary.”

Residents in the affected area were notified of the meeting on Aug. 16 via mail.

The purpose of the August 30 meeting is to discuss the department’s new preferred alternative, present information, obtain public feedback, and discuss next steps.
