Jesse Miech continues coaching career at Northern Illinois

Stevens
Point native and former Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) boys
soccer goalkeeper Jesse Miech has continued his coaching career at the college
level.

The
son of former University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) football head coach
John Miech and former UWSP women’s soccer head coach Sheila Miech was named the
top assistant coach this summer for the NCAA Division 1 Northern Illinois
University men’s soccer team, which opened its season Friday, Aug. 26.

“It
was an amazing opportunity for me to get back in the Division 1 game,” said
Miech. “I just came out of Division II, that was a great experience, and I feel
very fortunate that I got to jump into a program that has had some success.

“It’s
kind of that mid-major school where our goal is hopefully every four years,
every kid in our program can reach an NCAA Tournament, and that’s realistic
here, which is very exciting,” he said. “And it just worked out that it seems
like I get to keep on moving closer to home and be around my family, so it was
the right fit on all levels.”
