A Stevens Point man has netted multiple felony charges after being arrested for driving a motorcycle without a license and while intoxicated.

Stevens Point police arrested 51-year-old John Wnuk following a traffic stop at about 7:45 PM on Aug. 13 at the intersection of Division and Dixon streets.

Though he told police he had just gone to buy cigarettes, officers could smell alcohol on Wnuk’s breath, according to complaint. He initially denied having drank any alcohol, but then claimed to have started drinking a pitcher of beer at about 9 AM that morning but stopped drinking at noon.

After taking a breathalyzer test, Wnuk was found to have a blood alcohol content of .102 — over the state’s legal limit for driving and beyond Wnuk’s court mandated alcohol restriction of .02 percent. Wnuk was previously convicted of an OWI in Oct. of 2015.

He is charged with his fourth count of OWI and operating with a prohibited blood alcohol level. Each charge carries a maximum sentence of up to a $10,000 fine, six years imprisonment or both of convicted. A separate charge of driving with a revoked license carries a maximum sentence of up to a $2,500 fine, or one year in county jail or both.

Wnuk’s initial appearance in Portage Co. Circuit Court, originally scheduled for Sept. 6, has been adjourned until Sept. 19 at 1:30 PM while he seeks an attorney.

He is currently free on a $1,000 cash bond and must maintain absolute sobriety.
