I live on a cul-de-sac that is off County Highway HH/McDill Ave. When we need to go anywhere we must use HH.

Since the recent resurfacing of HH there has been a noticeable increase in the speed of motorists through this area. This can be evidenced by the number of times the Portage County deputies stop cars for excessive speed during those times when they can patrol it. Also the radar speed meter that has been placed along this stretch is flashing red far too often.

This stretch of HH is residential with a large number of the homes having driveways that exit onto HH. At times it is difficult for these residents to enter or exit their driveways. Also, cars needing to turn left onto the streets along this road often are in endanger of being rear ended by cars following that are going too fast.

Also, there is a school crossing at School Street that has become so dangerous that parents are reluctant to let their children walk or ride to McDill School. A resident has volunteered to help children cross but she reports that she has had a close call as she was almost hid as motorists don’t slow down for the flashing light that tells them the speed limit is 15 mph.

We need to find a way to improve safety on this stretch of road. A public information meeting will be held at the Whiting Village Hall, 3600 Water Street, on Thurs., Sept. 22 at 7 PM to discuss ways to improve safety and traffic flow on this street.

I would like to see a good turnout of concerned residents at this important meeting.
