The Stevens Point Area Senior High girls tennis team improved its Wisconsin Valley Conference record to 2-0 with a 7-0 win over Marshfield at the SPASH courts Monday Afternoon. The match was a make-up from September 6th when the contest was rained out.

Emily Luetschwager and Sabrina Tang improved their season records to 19-0 with 6-0, 6-0 wins at #1 and #2 singles respectively. Kayla Stutesman improved her season record to 16-3 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #3 singles and Leah Olsen stands at 15-2 blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at #4 singles.

“The team is doing well,” said Luetschwager. “We are currently ranked #7 in the state. Our goal is to make it to the team state competition and we have a really good shot to make it — it will be very competitive between us and Eau Claire Memorial.”

The doubles team of Suzie DeBot and Emily Meier scored a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win.

Madison DeBot – Taylor Konczal (7-5, 6-0) and Kaylee Bruneau –Lillie James (6-1, 6-0) picked up wins for the Panthers to complete the sweep.

“We’ve been trying some different combinations at doubles and once those girls get more matches in with their new partners, I think we have a chance to beat some of the top ranked schools in the state,” Luetschwager said. “Last year we had a really good season but I think this year our team is really stepping up and has an opportunity to be even more successful.”

The Panthers continue Wisconsin Valley Conference play Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Wisconsin Rapids and return to the SPASH courts on Thursday, Sept. 15 to host Merrill. First serve for both matches is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
