A Stevens Point man was sentenced on Tuesday after police found almost $70K in heroin and methamphetamine were found in his Indiana Ave. home in February.
Jason Cortright, 37, pleaded no contest in July to possession with intent to deliver heroin as well as possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, each punishable by up to 40 years in prison.
Cortright was arrested as part of an investigation with the Central Wisconsin Drug Task Force and the Dept. of Homeland Security when, in early Feb., the Stevens Point Police Dept. was notified of a package suspected of containing drugs was sent to Cortright from San Bernadino, Cali.
Investigators later confirmed the package contained heroin.
The task force, comprised of law enforcement officers from SPPD, the Plover Police Dept., the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office and Wood Co. conducted a search of the home on the 2800 block of Indiana Ave., where detectives seized small amounts of marijuana, more than 107 grams of heroin and over 136 grams of methamphetamine.
The drugs had a total street values of more than $68,000, according to police.
Cortright was not home at the time of the search, but admitted to police the package was his.
Portage Co. Judge Thomas Flugaur sentenced Cortright to seven years in prison, and seven years on extended supervision once he’s released.
