City Announces Prentice Street Remodel for 2017

City leaders have announced a long-awaited remodel for Prentice Street.
Similar to other reconstructive projects on Ellis St. and Sixth Ave., crews will replace underground utilities and rebuild the roadway, which runs parallel to Division St. on the west side of the YMCA.
Director of Public Works Scott Schatschneider referred to Prentice St. as “one of the worst” roadways in the city, and he estimates it was last resurfaced sometime in the 1960s.
“But the [underground] utilities are pushing the 90-year mark,” Schatschneider said.
Crews will begin closing the roadway off to thru traffic next April. The entire length of road between Maria Dr. and Centerpoint Dr. will be rebuilt.
“It’s a healthy project,” Schatschneider said. “Given the length of the road, we’d push into November before it opens up again.”
