August “Gus” “Clarence” Wanta

August “Gus” “Clarence” Wanta, 92, Rosholt died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at Willow Brooke Point.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Wanta will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at St Adalbert Catholic Church. The Rev. Roy Witucki will officiate.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Shuda Funeral Chapel – Stevens Point and again Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. A rosary will be

prayed Sunday, Sept. 25, at 6:30 p.m. at Shuda Funeral Chapel – Stevens Point.

Mr. Wanta was born Dec. 20, 1923, in Rosholt, the son of the late Leo and Katie (Suchon) Wanta.

He attended local schools then entered the U. S. Marine Corps. After serving his country as a Private First Class he was honorably discharged June 15, 1946.

After serving during World War II, he returned back home and worked as a dairy farmer.

He married Delores Check May 29, 1954, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia.

After their marriage, he continued work as a dairy farmer until he was 87 years old.

Survivers include his daughter Karen (Ed) Woiak, Waupaca; two sons Michael (Ellen) Wanta, Rosholt, and Mark (Sherry) Wanta, Rosholt; two sisters, Virginia Kwiatkowski and Christine Nitka, both of Stevens Point; brother-in-law, Andrew Powalish, Chicago, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Alice Wanta, Milwaukee; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his wife in 1994; five brothers, Ed, Raymond, Leonard Chester and Harry; and four sisters, Jean, Valerie, Stella and Delores.
