Rev. Carl (PC) Richard Selle, of Rosholt, Wis., died on Saturday, September 24, 2016, after living with brain cancer for nearly two years. He was 75.

He was born on August 24, 1941, in Chicago Heights, Ill., to Rev. Carl F. W. and LaVerne J. Selle. He attended Concordia High School and Concordia Junior College in Milwaukee, Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne, IN and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO.

In 1969, he married Karol Gill and together they have four children.

For 42 years, Pastor Carl served his Savior in ministry in The Lutheran Church―Missouri Synod, including parish ministry in Covington, LA; Evansville, Ind.; and Neshkoro, Wis.; campus ministry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point; as an evangelistic missionary among international students in southern Michigan, pioneering a new model for ministry at colleges and universities; and as an educational missionary in Japan and China.

Pastor Carl had a passion for sharing the Gospel, especially in his ministry among college students.

In 2011, Pastor Carl was awarded an honorary doctorate by Concordia Seminary for his work among international students.

He is survived by his wife, Karol, his four children Andrew (Suzanne), Nathan (Holly), Matthew (Angie), and Miriam (Ross Kolodziej), 11 grandchildren, brothers Rob (Penny) and John (Cheryl), sisters Jean (Paul), Ann, and Ruth, and nieces and nephews.

Pastor Carl lived each day remembering the words of his confirmation verse, Isaiah 41:10: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Visitation will be held at Peace Lutheran Campus Center in Stevens Point on Thursday, September 29 from 4 PM to 8 PM and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Stevens Point, on Friday, September 30 at 11 AM with a luncheon to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Pastor Carl’s name to International Student Ministry, Inc., Box 22, Stevens Point, Wis., 54481 or online at www.isminc.org.
