August ‘Gus’ ‘Clarence’ Wanta

August “Gus” “Clarence” Wanta, 92, Rosholt, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at Willow Brooke Point in Stevens Point.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Sept. 26, at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Rosholt with the Rev. Roy Witucki officiating.

Visitation was at the Shuda Funeral Chapel – Stevens Point Sunday, Sept. 25, and at the church Monday.

Mr. Wanta was born Dec. 20, 1923, in Rosholt, a son of the late Leo and Katie (Suchon) Wanta. He attended local schools.

He entered the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and served as a private first class. He was honorably discharged June 15, 1946.

He returned home after service and worked as a dairy farmer.

He was married to Delores Check May 29, 1954, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia. She died in 1994.

After their marriage, he continued work as a dairy farmer until he was 87 years old.

Survivors include one daughter, Karen (Ed) Woiak, Waupaca; two sons, Michael (Ellen) Wanta and Mark (Sherry) Wanta, both of Rosholt; two sisters, Virginia Kwiatkowski and Christine Nitka, both of Stevens Point; brother-in-law, Andrew Powalish, Chicago, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Alice Wanta, Milwaukee; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Ed, Raymond, Leonard, Chester and Harry; and four sisters, Jean, Valerie, Stella and Delores.
