The Stevens Point Police Department has responded to two reported stabbings within two days last week — both in the Downtown District.

The first occurred at about 1 AM on Friday, Sept. 23. According to a news release from Assistant Chief Tony Babl, a physical altercation broke out between four young men as they left the downtown area. One of the men reported being stabbed in the chest. He was treated at Ministry St. Michael’s and later released.

The suspect in that stabbing is described as a black man in his mid-20’s, approximately 5′ 8″ to 5′ 10″ tall. He has a muscular build and short black hair, according to the release.

The second incident occurred at the intersection of Crosby and Second streets on Sunday, Sept. 25 at about 2:50 AM. In that incident, witnesses reported hearing glass breaking on the street, following by people yelling that someone was stabbed.

No victim or suspect has been identified in that case.

“Based on the information thus far, this incident is not believed to be related to the first,” the release reads in part.

No further information about either incident was immediately released by the police department.
