Plover makes changes for upcoming election
Village of Plover residents will see some slight changes to voting procedures in the upcoming November election.
In response to complaints received about long lines and the amount of time it took to register and/or cast a vote in the spring election, Village Board members Wednesday, Sept. 21, approved adjusting one of the ward’s voting locations and opening early voting and registration sooner than in previous elections.
Residents may register and vote early at the Municipal Center beginning Monday, Oct. 3. Absentee ballots also will be available.
“The village is recommending voters vote early, and we highly recommend people register early,” Village Administrator Dan Mahoney said. “It gives an opportunity for folks to come in and avoid the lines.”
Village Clerk Karen Swanson provided six options for the board’s review in determining how to address voter needs given the new regulations requiring a proof of resident identification and proof of residence while registering to vote. Registration and manual entry of newly registered voters were the two main components that brought about the slowdown in April.
