Way earns silver medal at AAU National Judo Tournament

The Stevens Point Judo Club’s Nate Way recently earned a silver medal in the heavyweight division at the Amateur Athletic Union National Judo Tournament Saturday, Aug. 13, in Milwaukee.
Additionally, Stevens Point Judo Club member Keston Hayakawa placed second Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Fight Prime Youth Judo Tournament in Madison. The tournament followed a week-long Judo camp hosted by Sensei Os Millan, an eighth-degree black belt.
Summer judo classes for adults ended last week with three judo promotions: Jon Mielke moved up to yellow belt, Tim Wright received his orange belt. and David Hayakawa advanced to green belt. Testing for new rank is done in front of coaches’ Jim Weidner, a sixth-degree black belt, and Tom Gustin, a seventh-degree black belt. Students are encouraged to continue the diligent study of the sport of judo; to perfect their technical skill to a higher degree, to understand the principles of the art and science of judo.
