It was a thrilling victory for junior varsity Panthers on a cool fall Thursday night at Goerke Field.
SPASH scored first in the second quarter with a running touchdown on a 4th down. Marshfield didn’t answer back until late in the third quarter with a touchdown, but missed the extra point to tie the game at 6-6.
The excitement in the crowd peaked with a long run by #81, Mason King midway through the fourth quarter. Mason’s run set up touchdown catch in the end zone by #27, Travis Johnson with only 2:30 left in the game.
The extra point was good, putting SPASH up 13-12.
SPASH defense shut down the Tigers for the rest of the game when #22, Lee Goman, intercepted Marshfield and ran for a touchdown with only 36 seconds left in game, sealing the Panthers lead at 20-12.
Adding insult to injury, SPASH intercepted the ball again on the next drive, ending any hope the Tigers had for a miracle.
