Joseph J. Okray, Jr.

Joseph J. Okray Jr., 87, Plover, a retired president of
Okray Produce in Plover, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10,
at the Pisarski Community Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Plover, with the
Rev. Marion Talaga officiating. Military honors will follow the service.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. Monday
until the service.
Donations may be made to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens
Point, Joe & Pat Okray Student Education Association Support Fund.

Mr. Okray was born Sept. 19, 1929, in Stevens Point, the
youngest of seven children to the late Joseph and Helen (Niemczyk) Okray. He
graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
He began working at Okray Produce in the 1950s, becoming president
in 1999.
He was married to Patricia Ann Fox in 1954.
He served on many boards, including the United Fresh Fruit
and Vegetable Association, the M&I Stevens Point Bank and was president of
the Bank of Plover. He was also a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of
Elks Lodge 641, Plover Lions, and the Plover Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was inducted into the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable
Growers Association Hall of Fame in 1996.
He was known as “OK Joe” and owned and
raced thoroughbred horses.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Christopher
(Colleen), Joseph and Richard (Carol); nine grandchildren; and 10
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.
