flagJoseph J. Okray, Jr. passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, peacefully at his home in Plover.

He was born in Stevens Point on September 19, 1929 to Joseph and Helen (Niemczyk) Okray, the youngest of seven children. He graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School, served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and attended the University of Wisconsin- Madison.

He began working at Okray Produce in the 1950s, becoming president in 1999. He was married to Patricia Ann Fox in 1954 and had three sons, Christopher (Colleen), Joseph and Richard (Carol).

Joseph served on many boards with distinction, including the United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association, the M&I Stevens Point Bank and was President of the Bank of Plover. He was also a member of B.P.O.E. Lodge #641, Plover Lions and the Plover VFW.

He was inducted into the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association Hall of Fame in 1996.

“OK Joe” was an avid hunter, especially with his beagles, enjoyed owning and racing thoroughbred horses, and loved to play cards as a self-proclaimed cribbage master.

He was preceded in death by all six of his brothers and sisters and is survived by his wife, children, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to UWSP, Joe & Pat Okray Student Education Association Support Fund.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, Oct. 10, 2016, at the Pisarski Community Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 2911 Plover Road in Plover. Rev. Marion Talaga will officiate.

Visitation on Monday from 9:30 AM until time of service at the funeral home. Military honors will follow the service.
