VFW to Hold Scholarship Competitions

Students in junior high or high school are invited to participate in two different scholarship competitions through the VFW.
Between $500 and $30,000 in scholarships for post-secondary education will be awarded for winners of both competitions.
An essay competition, Patriot’s Pen, is designed for students in grades six through nine. Students must submit a written essay with the subject, “The American I Believe In” with a maximum of 300 words. The top scholarship prize is $5,000.
A speech contest, Voice of Democracy, is aimed at students in grade nine through 12. Students should record their three-to-five minute speech on a CD or flash drive. This year’s theme is, “My Responsibility to America.” The final winner of that competition will receive a $30,000 scholarship.
A submissions should be sent to Plover VFW, 2970 Hickory Dr., Plover Wis., 54467 and must be received by Nov. 1, 2016.
