Making History: SPASH Sends Girls Golf Team to State

By Robert Whitmire
The SPASH Girls Golf Team will compete in the WIAA state tournament for the first time in the team’s history after finishing second at the Eau Claire Memorial Sectional.
SPASH finished four strokes behind Onalaska at sectionals on Oct. 3 with a score of 350, led by senior Mary McDonald’s 81. Jessica Barber recorded a round of 87 and Brooke Tuszka toured the Wild Ridge Golf Course with a round of 90.
“Qualifying for state as a team has made this year’s season extra special,” said senior Mary McDonald, team captain.
“This past year we carded our best team score – 344 for 18 holes – so I am excited to see how we will perform on Monday and Tuesday,” she added. “Since I am a senior, and so are two of my teammates – Brooke Tuszka and Mallory Buetow – it is exciting to be playing our last high school meet at University Ridge.”
The Panthers will tee off in the WIAA Division one meet at 8 AM on University Ridge Golf Course in Madison Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 10-11.
