A Plover man who was already out on bond for domestic abuse charges is back behind bars for allegedly hitting the same woman.

Christian Schroeder, 22, has been charged with misdemeanor battery, disorderly conduct, felony bail-jumping and misdemeanor bail-jumping after police were called to his Forest Dr. trailer home on Sept. 3.

According to the criminal complaint, Plover police responded after a caller reported a disturbance at his neighbor’s home, later determined to be Schroeder’s. The caller told a dispatcher that neighbors heard shouting, and helped the woman get away from Schroeder, according to the complaint.

When police arrived the woman was crying and holding her abdomen. She later told police she was pregnant and Schroeder punched her in the stomach. She was treated in a Portage Co. ambulance at the scene.

A man who was staying at Schroeder’s trailer temporarily told police he’d awoken that day to “the sound of the couple screaming at each other and…items being broken and thrown around.” He also told police he did not leave his room to witness the events personally because he did not want to get involved.

Schroeder had “barricaded himself inside the trailer,” according to the complaint, and officers were about to climb through a window to arrest him when Schroeder voluntarily exited the home via the front door. He was then taken into custody and transported to the Portage Co. Jail.

The woman told police Schroeder had kicked her out of the home.

“I guess I wasn’t moving fast enough,” the woman told police, referring to why Schroeder allegedly punched her. She also said he punched her in the mouth, which she believed loosened some of her teeth.

Police also interviewed several nearby residents, who were able to confirm at least parts of the woman’s story. According to two male witnesses who both heard shouting from Schroeder’s trailer, the woman was seen leaving the residence yelling that Schroeder — who was calling the woman vulgar names in the yard, according to the complaint — had hit her. They helped the woman away from the trailer and would not let Schroeder leave until police arrived.

The condition of the woman, or of her unborn child, was not immediately available.

He was previously arrested in June on charges of strangulation and suffocation as well as disorderly conduct, and released on a $200 cash bond; he was arrested again in July for charges of battery and disorderly conduct. In that case, he was released on a $650 cash bond. Those cases are still open.

He is currently being held on $1,000 cash bond and returns to court for a pre-trial conference on Oct. 24 at 8:30 AM.
