To the Editor:

With the school year in full swing and the holidays quickly approaching, I realize everyone’s calendar is booking up fast. But here is one event I hope your child chooses to participate in, the Elks Lodge Hoops Shoot (Free Throw Shooting Contest).

What is Hoop Shoot you ask? It is a free throw shooting contest open to boys and girls between the ages of 8 to 13, in the Stevens Point area, sponsored by the Stevens Point Elks Lodge. The winners of each category will receive a trophy and advance to the district competition.

Categories are grouped by age: 8 to 9, 10 to 11 and 12 to 13. The national contest will be held in Chicago in the middle of April 2017.

We are not requiring preregistration. However, I would greatly appreciate an email or phone call at [email protected] or 715-498-9408 indicating your child’s interest in participating. This event will be held starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 (registration free), at St. Paul Lutheran School in Stevens Point.

I hope to see you on Oct. 29.
