Emmett M. Gear

Emmett M. Gear, 94, Plover, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, at
home while under the care of Heartland Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at
the Stahl Funeral Home in Plainfield. Burial will be in the Colburn/Leola
Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m.
Friday until the services.

Mr. Gear was born Feb. 12, 1922, in Hancock, a son of the
late Archie and Jesse (Mosher) Gear.
He was married to Susan H. “Sue” Sorenson Sept. 24, 1949, in
Coloma.
He began working at the Port Edwards paper mill in the late
1940s. In 1958 he took over the family farm outside Hancock and farmed nearly
500 acres with his sons until retiring in the late 1970s.
He also worked for Aunt Nellie’s Canning Company. In 1992
after retiring again, he and his wife raised exotic
animals and shared them with the children that came to visit from nearby
schools.
In 2001, they moved to Plover for medical reasons.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Susan; three sons,
Jerry (Marilynne), North Charleston, S.C., Lee (Tammy Karis), Plover, and Greg (Lynn),
Plover; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
