SPASH sends four to state, as Luetschwager eyes repeat

Senior Emily Luetschwager will look to win her second
consecutive State Title when she is joined by Stevens Point Area Senior High
School (SPASH) teammates in sophomore Sabrina Tang and the doubles team of
seniors Suzie DeBot and Emily Meier at the WIAA Division 1 Girls Tennis
Individual State Tournament this weekend.
Luetschwager earned the No. 1 seed and will be joined by Tang
in the singles bracket, while DeBot and Meier will compete in doubles at
Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 13-15.
“It’s really exciting,” said SPASH girls tennis head coach
Gary Baier. “Emily Luetschwager’s the No. 1 seed in the tournament and the
defending State Champion, so that’s fun.
“Sabrina is the No. 12 seed, which was really a nice
surprise, we were kind of thinking she’d be in the 14-range, so for her to be a
little bit higher is helpful,” he said. “And then our doubles team played
really well in the Conference Tournament but weren’t feeling 100 percent at
Sectionals, so for them to pull through the first match and get to state was
huge.”
