LETTER: Lassa Has Local Support

To the Editor-
I heard recently that 24th District Senate candidate Patrick Testin is falling short in his local campaign fundraising. To make up deficiencies, he is receiving money from big out-of-state Republican groups. It seems that in his campaign, Testin falls short on the kind of local relationships he needs.
The incumbent, Julie Lassa, has genuine connections with Wisconsinites. I have long appreciated Senator Lassa’s viewpoints on issues, but it was this summer while volunteering for her campaign that I fully appreciated the relationships between Senator Lassa and her constituents.
I’ve seen Julie reach the end of a parade route 30 minutes later than her campaign vehicle. She’s been on foot the entire way, walking up to front porches, saying hello, and listening to the concerns of dozens of spectators. I’ve seen veterans thank her and hug her for her advocacy. Residents — farmers, shopkeepers, retired people — know her and greet her because she’s approachable and caring; she responds to any questions or issues. Julie’s family takes enthusiastic part in her campaign to support Wisconsin values.
To protest a bill that cut state employees’ salaries, health insurance, pensions and bargaining rights, Senator Lassa courageously (she was seven months pregnant at the time) joined her Democratic colleagues to leave the state. Don’t you want a Senator who is this principled? I sure do.
Senator Julie Lassa is an energetic, effective, and knowledgeable legislator whose behavior reflects her strong bonds with Wisconsinites. Return Julie Lassa to the State Senate.
